Future Frequencies
APF members Derek Woodgate and Wayne Pethrick of The Futures Lab have authored the exciting new futures book Future Frequencies.

Future Frequencies delivers a unique insight into how innovative approaches in the realm of progressive culture can stimulate revolutionary thinking for thinking about the future.

In addition to examining The Futures Lab's distinctive and highly successful approach to creating future potential and opportunities for corporate and institutional clients, the book offers an in-depth look at some of the most extraordinary and provocative cultural figures around, melding elements of their creations into each stage of the futures studies process. Each chapter examines an array of real-life case studies that illustrate how this unique fusion delivers profitable outputs for clients.

Future Frequencies will appeal to anyone interested in how futurists juggle ideas and insights and apply their thinking in the world of business. The concepts described in the book also inform, entertain and intrigue those interested in progressive culture.

This piece, to be published in Futures Research Quarterly (Winter 2003) proposes an integral futures approach to revitalizing environmental scanning. After the diagnosis of current problems, the basic steps of an integral environmental scanning are explained.

Examples of how this approach is being applied at Dow Chemical are provided. While still in the early stages, they should provide a sense of real world application that builds on some of the seminal theoretical work in this space being developed by the Australian Foresight Institute.
