The world of social media is emerging as a powerful force of change. Blogs, wikis, and content sharing sites such as Flickr, YouTube, Digg, and Del.icio.us are connecting the conversations of millions and rebalancing the equations of power.
These social spaces act as idea transmission systems where users share, collaborate, and co-create outside established governance and commerce models. The social media sphere offers new ways to research and understand the future. As ideas form and move across these platforms, they leave evidence of their paths and hint at future trajectories. In addition to passive research, social media allows the “wisdom of crowds” to actively explore forces creating change. The role of the professional futurist is both enhanced and challenged by these new tools of research.
Join fellow APF members and selected media experts in a conversation
about the future of social media in the most social of spaces - New York City.
