Las Vegas, NV - March 2004 The Association of Professional Futurists (APF) invites you to join your colleagues as we explore multiple realities and how they impact the work of futurists, clients, and society. A combination of social, economic, and technology forces are creating opportunities to manipulate, simulate, control, edit, and mediate experience, ultimately shifting our notions about “a reality” to one of “multiple realities”. These altered realities in turn are giving rise to novel lifestyles, economic markets, and political power. Immigrant communities, tourism in a security age, the digitization of experiences, and a host of other trends are increasingly moving the economy from “real” experiences to artificial and virtual ones. This shift will spawn new product categories, create competition in peripheral or currently unknown places, and challenge our ability to plan and act. PDF Meeting Report |

February 2003 Forty futurists gathered in Austin, Texas from February 28 - March 1, 2003 to explore the "Futures of Futures." The meeting was organized by the year-old Association of Professional Futurists (APF), which was formed to give structure and form to the growing informal efforts by many futurists to become more organized. Years of hallway chatter at various conferences and meetings, characterized by frustration at the low esteem of the field and the difficulty in making a living as a practicing futurist, finally reached the point where the number of people involved and their level of frustration hit critical mass.
