The 2007 Professional Development seminar was held in Minneapolis, MN on Sunday, July 29, 2007. A favorite from the APF Annual Meeting, a “Little Big” is a 5-minute, rapid-fire presentation of one interesting, provocative, puzzling or otherwise worthwhile idea led by one of the seminar participants. It’s speed-learning at its best – and lots of fun, too. 9.00 Get Quoted Led by Pam McConathy, Pierpont Communications Members of the APF are often interviewed for their ideas about new trends and issues. Every interview is an opportunity to promote your work as well as educate the public about the futures field. Pam will lead an interactive session in media relations, providing strategies and training for successfully communicating your messages to the press. 10.15 Break 10.30 Interviewing Practice 12.00 Lunch 1.30 Little Bigs: Session II 1.45 Visualization Led by Wendy Schultz, Infinite Futures Standards for presentations and websites have gone well beyond PowerPoint bullets and icons. Today good presentations are highly visual, if not animated, incorporating the best of design. This session, led by Wendy Schultz, will survey the field of visual presentation, including: Elements & sources of good visual presentation; tools for managing and creating your own visualizations; and what you should know about the legal use of visual materials. 3.00 Break 3.15 Open Space Self-directed discussion groups on topics of your choice. Do you want feedback on an idea or methodology? Or would you simply like to brainstorm about the implications of a particular trend or issue?
