The APF was founded in Jan 2002 by an informal network of professional futurists who saw the need to create a community of professional futurists to advance the field. We now have almost 200 members from all over the world.

The founders obviously hit a nerve; the APF has grown from just a few colleagues to a professional organization with almost 200 members. Milestones include:

  • Founded in Jan 2002 at an informal gathering in Seattle, WA
  • First anniversary: Jan 2003- 78 members. Conference on “The Future of Futures” in Austin, TX
  • Second anniversary: Jan 2004- 100 members. Conference on “The Future of Reality” in Las Vegas, NV
  • Third anniversary: Jan 2005- over 150 members. Conference on “Futures Insurrection” in Miami, FL
  • Fourth anniversary: Jan 2006- almost 200 members. Conference on “iMod: Hacking the Big Ideas” in Santa Fe, NM
