After the outpouring of ideas on the listserv about the future of futures practices and strategic foresight, the board decided to update the APF Future of Certification white paper
. While that research effort represented members' views in 2007 and remains intriguing in its own right, it did not necessarily address the same issues or respond as we would today. In other words, our ideas about the field have grown significantly in the last five years.
The focus of the Town Hall is the future of foresight, in particular, how we practice and APF's role in shaping and/or responding to those futures. The 2012 white paper is intended to push us, to be forward looking, and free us to explore what's next. This meeting serves to move forward from the listserv conversation (check thread on certification
, several others) and exchange ideas in a shared space, in order to advance professional foresight and the APF, and to inform the 2012 white paper.
There really is no substitute for face-to-face conversations. Your colleagues views may change your ideas and then your thoughts may influence others. In particular, we can further cultivate the APF's role as a leader and/or as a vetting ground, the place where important conversations about the practice of strategic foresight occur.
Join us Saturday for an open discussion, town hall style, in Toronto.
